“The important thing is not to agree on everything, but to want to cooperate despite our differences”, Hungary’s EU Commissioner Tibor Navracsics said about Hungary’s and the EU’s relationship at an event in Kecskemet on Friday.
The Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport told the audience of the “Dialogue with the citizens” event:
“I noticed that we often talk about Europe in Hungary, as if it was foreign policy, as if we, Hungarians weren’t part of Europe, and were arguing with an external power. But Hungary is a fundamental part of Europe. We consider ourselves a small country, but we are a medium-sized country, with considerable power in education, culture and sport”.
Navracsics explained that it’s worth cooperating with the EU, not only for Europe’s peace, but also fur values like the free movement of workforce, relative welfare or even the Erasmus programme. He added that Hungarians should be a little less sensitive in debates with Europe. The Commissioner said that regarding infringement procedures is in the midfield.
